About

Gisel Carriconde Azevedo

I am an artist from Brasilia, Brazil. Since 2000, I have been working with both museums – as an exhibition designer – and dance and theatre – as a set designer. These experiences have been influential on my awareness of both the public and space, and have ultimately led to my interest in installation and curatorship.

Between 2006 and 2008, working with artists and curators involved with public art, I had the opportunity of participating in different events involving art intervention. During this period I started to address art institutions in my work and this then became central to my practice. I am particularly interested in the museum’s curatorial strategies and the use of objects, language and context in the construction of knowledge.

I recently finished a doctorate in fine art at UEL, London. I had lived in England previously, between 1994 and 1999, when I undertook an M.A in fine art at the University of Brighton.
